Steeped in history, this grand yet homely castle makes for a remarkably atmospheric base in the Scottish Borders. The seat of Clan Kerr, this 15th-century castle is known as Scotland’s frontier fortress. It’s set amid enchanting forests overlooking the River Jed, 2 miles south of Jedburgh. Some guests will sleep in the ground-floor wing, while others will fight over the romantic turret bedrooms. A wood-panelled turret library in the southwest tower is full of books and curiosities, and there are portraits of King James VI and the Kerr family dotted throughout the castle. For a real taste of historic Scotland, you won’t do better than this castle.
*Well-behaved pets are welcome to join you.
*This home is spread between the main castle and a separate ground-floor wing. The main castle is accessible via a flight of stairs so it may not be suitable for those with reduced mobility.
*Several of the double bedrooms can be unzipped into twin beds if preferred – just let your host know when you book.
*There’s free parking at this home.
*There’s a desk for those working remotely during their stay.
*While not every bedroom or bathroom has been photographed, we expect the style and standard to be consistent with the rest of the home.
