This cosy apartment ticks all our boxes for an alpine retreat. We can't get enough of the small balcony, which boasts views across the towering pines toward the snow-capped mountains – it's a sweet spot to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning sun or a glass of wine under the stars. Inside, the open-plan living space has cushy seating and a small kitchenette, making it the ideal place to chill out after a long day on the mountain. We like the mix of modern and rustic – timber ceilings, panelled walls and wooden bunk beds for the kids ooze ski-chalet charm, while the bold red sofa, geometric patterned chairs and large windows add a contemporary touch.

Most importantly, the location is incredible. The complex is steps away from The Les Grands Montets ski lift, with many other pistes in the Chamonix Valley just a short drive away. You'll be able to hit the slopes in no time at all, or if you're more into hiking, the trails and scenic outlooks are also within easy reach. Besides winter sports, this area is popular for mountain biking and rock climbing in the summer. No matter what you get up to, there's no better way to finish off an outdoorsy afternoon than with a delicious meal at the nearby patisseries, wine bars and restaurants dotted along Argentière's high street – it's just an eight-minute stroll away.
